We live in a rapidly changing world confronted by new and increasing pressures on our social systems and natural environment. An aging and growing global population, spiraling health care costs, natural resource depletion, global warming — these challenges are real and demand solutions through human innovation and scientific discovery. Physic Ventures believes that a burgeoning market has developed for technologies, products and services that address these local and global issues.

Our Purpose:

Physic Ventures exists to generate wealth by investing in companies that create value by delivering innovative solutions for preventing disease, promoting consumer-driven health and ensuring a sustainable planet for future generations.

Physic Ventures was founded to sponsor investment funds that provide early-stage venture capital and strategic resources to entrepreneurial teams committed to building great companies focused on personal and planetary health and wellbeing. We invest in validated science and technologies that are translated into products and services with distinct and discernable consumer benefits. Through the investing activities of these funds, we aim to address the most pressing health and environmental issues of our time.

Our team is both patient and urgent in our investment practice: We know that it takes time to build value in a young business and we also understand the competitive dynamics of the marketplace and the need to execute to establish a leadership position in the marketplace.

We measure our success as individuals not just by the traditional financial metrics of superior returns to our investors, but also with respect to the generation of positive social impact and our ability to foster sustainable environmental solutions.

Our Name:

Physic means "the science of healing" in Latin. Our name also makes reference to the Chelsea Physic Garden in London, one of the world's oldest and most important repositories of medicinal botanical specimens. The Chelsea Physic Garden houses several remarkable collections of herbs and medicinal plants. Some collections are divided by the cultural and geographic source of each plant (i.e. North American Indian, South African Tribal, Traditional Chinese, etc.), while other collections are organized by medicinal application (i.e. cardiology, dermatology, psychiatry, etc.).

The Chelsea Physic Garden was founded in 1673, as the Apothecaries' Garden, with the purpose of training apprentices in identifying plants. By the 1700's, it had initiated an international botanic garden seed exchange system, which continues to this day. Some years later, Dr. Hans Sloane, after whom the nearby locations of Sloane Square and Sloane Street were named, purchased the Manor of Chelsea from Charles Cheyne. This purchase of about 4 acres was leased to the Society of Apothecaries for £5 a year in perpetuity. Today, the Garden is a registered charity, open to the public for education and enjoyment. It has been particularly gaining renown in recent years due to renewed public and clinical interest in complementary and alternative medicine.
