Purchased in 2008 by Adidas Group, Textronics™ is a pioneer in the field of textile electronics.  The convergence of high-tech fiber science with electronics and optics is at an early stage. However it has the potential to revolutionize fabrics from clothing to industrial textiles and significantly impact other textile sectors in the next decade.  Textronics has technology streams under development that will enable energy-active fabric systems to deliver new kinds of functional benefits.  Possibilities include fabrics that warm, illuminate, conduct, sense, and respond to various stimuli.  These benefits will be most immediately relevant to specialist applications in medicine, sports, communications, and personal security, among others, but will ultimately have broad consumer relevance.
